I acquire board books, picture books, graphic novels, and heavily illustrated chapter books…essentially any format that relies heavily on art for readers who have yet to enter their angst years!

My focus is on stories written and illustrated by and for BIPOC. I’m hapa (mixed-raced Chinese/white) and grew up without adequate representation of my Asian identity in the media. That shit will fuck you up. It’s important to me as an editor to help close that gap so that kids of color get to see themselves represented widely in their favorite kinds of stories, both on and beyond the page.

With that goal in mind as my core drive…I’m looking for pure chaos. I edit books for the next generation of mad scientists, supervillains, and witches at the end of the street; my readers are playground pirates, kids who get in trouble for their imaginations, gremlin girls, and the toad who would rather bathe in mud than ever face a kiss.

I am only accepting submissions from agents, according to company policy.

vegetables (noooo THANK YOU):

• No lessons or morals. I do not want to learn anything or come away from the story a better person.

• No sweeping stories with uplifting notes about love, family, community, etc. I am a dairy queen in my diet, but lactose intolerant against cheesiness in books.

• No empowering stories about inner or outer beauty. There is a place for these stories, but it is not with me, your unfriendly neighborhood bridge troll.

• No stories where identity is the topic (key word topic! identity can certainly inform and layer the story but it shouldn’t BE the story)

• No holidays or traditions

• No biographies

• No prose-only novels

• No YA in any format

• No potty humor!! I talk a lot of shit, but I don’t want to publish poo.
